Cinnamon tree, small perennial evergreen, its leaves are heart-shaped, dark, fragrant, and its flowers are numerous, small, yellow in color, and its fruit is dark purple berries. It also contains essential oil.
Internal uses of cinnamon:
- Boiled cinnamon is used with a teaspoon of its powder placed on a full cup of boiling water, stirred, then left for ten minutes, and then drunk at a rate of 2-3 cups per day, to treat colds, coughs, uterine pain, difficulty urinating, and menstrual cycle.
- A mixture of equal parts of cinnamon powder and ginger is used, taking a teaspoon of cinnamon and another of ginger, adding to a full cup of boiling water, stirring well, leaving for 10 minutes, then drinking one to two cups per day to treat indigestion, nausea, bloating, gas, abdominal cramps, poor appetite, and to improve indigestion and cold hands and feet.
External uses of cinnamon:
- Cinnamon powder mixed with salt and onion as poultices to treat hair loss.
- Cinnamon powder mixed with fig as dressings to treat scorpion stings.
As for its harms, there are no side effects if cinnamon is taken in the prescribed doses, and there are no interactions with other medications or diseases. However, it should not be used by pregnant women due to its astringent properties that affect the uterine muscle.
